Today in class we will discuss argument, with an examination of Martin Luther King’s “Letter from Birmingham Jail.” We will focus today’s discussion on forming a debateable thesis and supporting that thesis with concrete evidence. Monday we will continue our discussion of argument with a focus on rebutting the opposition and avoiding logical fallacy. You have no reading assignment because I want you to conduct research (if you haven’t already) for the essay you are writing. Remember that it will be unacceptable for you to approach me after Thanksgiving to report you could not find appropriate sources. So if you have not begun your research, do so now.
